What is happiness and sorrow?

Happiness and sadness are our state of mind. One who gets happiness from the mind is happiness, the sorrow that brings sorrow.

Happiness for me can be sorrow for you and happiness for you is sorrow for me. The definition of happiness and sorrow depends on your mind.

If I say a little further, happiness and sorrow are a game of mind. In which you get happiness, you start getting sorrow. You keep wandering after happiness and sorrow goes after you.

Happiness and sorrow are two sides of the same coin. If you accept the coin or leave the coin completely, you will be available to joy or bliss. Which does not have the opposite aspect.
