Q. How to recognize a master (enlightened one)?
One day, I went on a picnic with some of my friends. We booked a big room there and we all slept close together in the same room.
I often get up for meditation at 5:00 am. So after the bath, when I sat for meditation, I first saw my friends sleeping in front of me, who were sleepy. In their sleep, they were not conscious at all. Somebody's hand here, someone's leg is there, saliva was flowing from someone's mouth. I carefully inspected them.
20 minutes later my first friend woke up. He had no awareness of where he was. He rubbed his eyes. He saw his fellow friend slept nearby. He was still not fully conscious. When he got a little conscious, then his attention went to me. Suddenly he became conscious. He knew the situation of me and himself and his colleagues, who are we? What are we here for? Now he was aware of the conditions of three different people, himself. myself and my sleeping friends. He was still half asleep, half awake. The dream of sleep was still going on in his mind. Now what to do next? He was also planning that.
As soon as he tried to awake one of his friends, our third friend woke up. He had no awareness of himself for a few moments. Now, first friend was aware of the situation of four people, me, himself, just awakened friend and the other sleeping friends.
The same four-five conditions in the world are between sleeping and awake one. If someone, like my first friend, gets a little awakening, then he can easily identify himself and enlightened one among these sleeping people. There is no other way.
To identify a master, you have to get a little awakening.
